In late March 2016 my daughter and I were doing some of the tourist sites in southern Iceland taking in what birds were available. The weather started out nice and sunny with light winds but after a day a severe gale arrived from the Atlantic with torrential rain and it became almost impossible to stand up at times. The sea developed a huge swell and even as the wind eased there were massive waves breaking against the shore and this clearly churned up a lot of food for gulls with large flocks of Kittiwakes and smaller numbers of Glaucous and Iceland Gulls feeding in the surf. In a break in the rain showers I stood on a cliff near Vik and noticed odd Iceland Gulls patrolling over the breaking waves. I took a few images of various birds but this beautiful adult over the breaking wave was the best of the bunch.
