female aggression.jpg

All birds provide us with a wealth of behaviour to observe and appreciate but raptors are often very obvious in their aerial activity and can produce spectacular encounters. Here are a selection of images showing different aspects of Marsh Harrier activity that I have managed to capture albeit often at long distances.

Left an established old adult female attempts to fend off advances from a young male that was trying to establish itself in the female’s breeding territory. Presenting claws upwards in an aerial roll complemented with screaming calls is a typical form of aggressive behaviour.
