Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Montana (just) September 2022

A family based trip to meet up with our new relatives and extended to take in Grand Teton and Yellowstone with a side trip to Arches National Park in Utah. For the first few days a heat wave that had affected the area was still bubbling with temperatures reaching 38C, too hot for birds and birding, then the weather broke after a week with some heavy rain that affected our stop off at Seedskadee near Rock Springs and one of our days in Yellowstone. Birds were often few and far between and migrants generally very skittish and difficult to see well let alone photograph — left a Cooper’s Hawk that we flushed from a carcass on the roadside before it landed on a nice perch.
