Northern Goshawk Accipiter gentilis
The ephemeral ghost of the forest so hard to see well and harder to tie down. Below are a selection of images all from the UK demonstrating the usual views that are obtained from raptor view points and then some closer views. Over the last three years I have been fortunate to have several close encounters with birds including a pair of breeding 2cy birds, female on the left, that subsequently bred in two following years. Entering the domain of these mighty birds you realise why they are so elusive and seldom seen as they melt into the forest with ease and reveal themselves so infrequently that a lot of dedication and stiff limbs are needed to obtain even the briefest of views.
Seeing a Goshawk hunting in the open is a very rare occurrence so this attack on a carrion Crow was a rare event but unfortunately a bit distant for images; not sure if the corvid survived as the action went behind some trees
