Point Pelee area May 6th -16th 2013

A fourth visit to the warbler capital of Canada and as usual some great encounters with vividly coloured birds but the variety of warblers seems to be in decline with every successive trip; in 1991 we saw 34 species in a two week visit but several of these were missed in 2013 including Canada Warbler though I did manage to add Kirtland’s Warbler to my North American warbler list taking the tally to 49 species (still missing Connecticut).

Close low views and photo opportunities with a cracking male Cerulean Warbler and a Yellow-throated Warbler, the latter at Rondeau were high points and my second Harris’s Sparrow was nice and showy at Long Point on the way down. Displaying Bobolinks at Blenheim were another nice addition with summer plumaged Wilson’s Phalaropes of course being hard to ignore.
